When it comes to Hermès bags, most people immediately think of the Birkin or Kelly. But let’s talk about a true everyday icon: the Hermès Evelyne. This bag is the definition of effortless luxury—chic, practical, and a perfect entry point into the world of Hermès.
I personally own the Evelyne TPM in black with palladium hardware, which I got in Honolulu, Hawaii. And let me tell you, this bag is a game-changer for errands, casual outings, and those “just grab and go” moments. It’s lightweight, easy to wear, and somehow always looks effortlessly put together. But before we get into its pros and cons, let’s dive into the origins, sizes, colors, and just how difficult it is to get your hands on one.

A Bit of History: The Evelyne’s Equestrian Roots
Like many Hermès designs, the Evelyne was born from the brand’s deep equestrian heritage. It was originally created in 1978 as a functional bag for horse riders. The signature perforated “H” wasn’t for branding—it was meant to ventilate horse grooming tools that riders carried inside. (Yes, this was literally designed as a horse-care tote—talk about an unexpected luxury glow-up!)
Fast forward to today, and the Evelyne has become a go-to crossbody for handbag lovers who want a piece of Hermès craftsmanship without the formality of a Birkin or Kelly.

Hermès Evelyne Sizes: Which One is Right for You?
The Evelyne comes in four sizes, each with its own charm:
• Evelyne TPM (Mini Evelyne) – The smallest of the bunch, this size is perfect for essentials (phone, small wallet, keys, and lipstick). It has no interior pocket and fits best for casual, everyday wear.
• Evelyne PM (Evelyne 29) – A medium-sized option that fits a bit more without being bulky. Great for those who want a roomier crossbody.
• Evelyne GM (Evelyne 33) – A large, practical size that works as a casual work bag or a stylish diaper bag for chic moms.
• Evelyne TGM (Evelyne 40) – The biggest of them all. While still a casual bag, this size is best suited for travel or those who carry a lot daily.
One key thing to note: Only the PM, GM, and TGM sizes come in both the Evelyne II (with an interior pocket) and Evelyne III (with an exterior pocket and an adjustable strap). The TPM has neither a pocket nor an adjustable strap—which, as we’ll discuss, can be a downside.

Most Popular Colors for the Hermès Evelyne
The Evelyne is often available in some of Hermès’ most coveted colors, making it all the more desirable. Some of the most sought-after shades include:
• Noir (Black) – Timeless and easy to style (which is why I went for it!).
• Gold – The classic warm tan shade that screams Hermès elegance.
• Etoupe – A sophisticated taupe with white contrast stitching.
• Rouge H – A deep, rich burgundy red that adds a pop of color while remaining neutral.
• Bleu Frida – A fun statement blue that’s been gaining popularity.
• Chai & Nata – Soft neutral beiges that blend seamlessly with any wardrobe.
If you’re looking for an Evelyne in a unique shade, seasonal colors also drop occasionally—but be prepared for the hunt!

How Hard Is It to Get an Evelyne?
While not as elusive as a Birkin or Kelly, the Evelyne isn’t exactly easy to find—especially in the TPM size, which is currently the most in-demand. Hermès boutiques often receive limited stock, and they tend to sell out fast. If you have a good relationship with a sales associate, you might have a better chance of getting one in a sought-after color.
You can also find Evelyne bags on the pre-loved market, but be prepared for some markup depending on the color and size. The TPM, in particular, is often priced higher than retail because of its popularity.

Pros & Cons of the Hermès Evelyne
Pros:
✅ Great Starter Hermès Piece – The Evelyne is one of the more affordable (by Hermès standards) bags, making it a perfect first Hermès bag.
✅ Lightweight & Easy to Carry – Unlike some structured Hermès bags, the Evelyne is effortless to wear.
✅ Crossbody for Hands-Free Convenience – Perfect for travel, errands, and everyday use.
✅ Craftsmanship – You still get that Hermès magic—amazing leather, impeccable stitching, and that luxurious feel.
Cons:
❌ The Strap is Not Adjustable (for TPM size) – This is one of my biggest gripes. If you’re on the shorter side, it might sit too low; if you’re taller, it might feel a bit high.
❌ Casual-Only Vibes – Due to the canvas strap, it leans very casual—meaning it’s not the best choice for formal occasions.
❌ No Interior Organization – The Evelyne is essentially an open space with no compartments, which can make it a bit messy inside. However, this can easily be fixed with an organizer insert! Many brands sell well-fitted inserts that help structure the bag while adding organization.
❌ Open Bag with Just a Snap Closure – The Evelyne does not have a zipper or flap closure—just a small snap buttonat the top. This makes it easy to grab things quickly, but also means there’s a risk of items falling out (especially if the bag tips over). If security is a concern, you might need a bag insert with a zipper top or just be extra mindful when carrying it.

Final Thoughts: Is the Evelyne Worth It?
Absolutely! If you’re looking for a luxury crossbody bag that’s functional, stylish, and more “accessible” than other Hermès bags, the Evelyne is a fantastic choice. It’s one of the best starter Hermès bags, giving you a taste of the brand’s exquisite leather and craftsmanship without the sky-high price tag of a Birkin or Kelly.
That being said, it’s not a bag for everyone—especially if you prefer adjustable straps, secure closures, or more formal styles. But if you’re like me and love a chic, easygoing, no-fuss bag, the Evelyne might just be your perfect everyday companion.
